Metopar (generic Paromax) is a combination of Metoclopramide and Paracetamol which belong to the groups of medicines called antiemetics and analgesics respectively. It is used to manage pain, nausea and vomiting associated with migraine attacks.
Metopar (generic Paromax) is used in the treatment of migraine. It prevents pain signals and fever associated with migraine. It also blocks certain substances in your brain that trigger nausea or vomiting during migraine headaches.
How Metopar (generic Paromax) works
Metopar (generic Paromax) is a combination of two medicines: Metoclopramide and Paracetamol. Metoclopramide is a prokinetic which works on the region in your brain that controls vomiting. It also increases the movement of your stomach and intestines, allowing food to move more easily through your stomach. This prevents nausea and vomiting caused due to migraine. Paracetamol is an analgesic (pain reliever) and an anti-pyretic (fever reducer) which blocks the release of certain chemical messengers that cause pain and fever associated with migraine.
Metopar (generic Paromax) is taken with or without food in a dose and duration as advised by your doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early, your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen. Let your doctor know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect, or be affected by this medicine.
The most common side effects are restlessness and tiredness. These are temporary and usually resolve with time. Contact your doctor straight away if you are concerned about any of these side effects. It may also cause drowsiness, so do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how this medicine affects you. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine as it can worsen your sleepiness.
How to use Metopar (generic Paromax)
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Metopar (generic Paromax) may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose of Metopar (generic Paromax), take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
